Veneers Q & A

What are veneers?

Veneers are a cosmetic dentistry treatment that reforms an imperfect smile. They consist of thin sheets of porcelain that fit right over your existing teeth and mask major smile flaws. If you have uneven teeth or ones that are discolored and don’t respond to traditional whitening, veneers can help.

Veneers give you a Hollywood smile. They match your natural coloration and have a sheen that looks just like natural tooth enamel.

What smile concerns can veneers address?

Veneers are a good answer when you have minor cosmetic imperfections. The types of concerns veneers address include:

  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Yellowing and heavy stains
  • Broken teeth
  • Wide gaps between teeth
  • Pointy or short teeth

Veneers are a simple and relatively quick fix for teeth that are mildly crooked or have problems related to spacing or crowding. Veneers can also alter the length and shape of your teeth to make your smile look uniform.

Are veneers hard to care for?

Veneers are a sturdy cosmetic treatment. You care for them just like you do your natural teeth. The providers at Smile with Care Dental of Colorado recommend you brush twice daily, floss regularly, and schedule professional cleanings and exams at least twice a year. With good care, veneers last 10 years or longer*.

Avoid using your teeth as tools and chewing on hard objects like ice or candy when you have veneers. These actions can damage your veneers.

What is the process of getting veneers?

Veneers do require a few visits to the office of Smile with Care Dental of Colorado. At the first visit, your provider makes models, obtains photographs, and takes digital X-rays to create a customized blueprint for your treatment.

Once your customized plan is set, you’ll come to the office to have your teeth prepared. Your provider shaves off a small amount of your natural enamel to make room for the veneers, which are about the width of a contact lens. You’ll have temporary veneers placed to protect your teeth as you wait for your permanent veneers to come in from a fabrication lab.

At the next appointment, your dentist places your permanent veneers, ensuring each one is bonded just right to look and feel natural. You get a final polish and are then ready to flash your beautiful smile.
